About Us

The Passion Behind Greenwich Wood Products

Greenwich Wood Products was founded in 2002 by Michael Hendershot. Fresh out of the University of Rhode Island, Michael started Greenwich Wood Products with the intention of creating aesthetically pleasing and functional products in wood and other interesting materials. He grew up on a small horse farm in Exeter spending his days making pinewood derby cars and has always had an interest in woodworking, agriculture, forestry and other old world skills.

Identifying an unfilled niche in the New England market, Michael elected to study furniture making and woodworking techniques with acclaimed furniture makers, boat builders, and accomplished RISD graduates before launching his own line of specialty architectural wood products in 2003.

Supporting the Agricultural Sector

Greenwich Wood Products also serves agricultural interests and farms throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and other areas of New England. Creating agricultural implementations on farms and backyard garden spaces, as well as providing valuable materials to those with livestock and large gardens, fall under the breadth of work done by Michael and GWP.

It is important that much of their work supports the agricultural sector in New England as it is an incredibly important facet of our lives, while also a fleeting interest for so many.

Words to Live and Work by

A quote stated by one of our brilliant founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, serves as Michael's mantra, in business as well as in life.

"There seem to be but three ways for a nation to acquire wealth.  The first by war....This is robbery.  The second by commerce, which is generally cheating.  The third by agriculture, the only honest way, wherin man receives a real increase of the seed thrown into the ground, in a kind of continual miracle, wrought by the hand of God in his favor, as a reward for his innocent life and his virtous industry."
